There is no “normal” or universal amount of e-liquid consumed per day. Two vapers may use very different volumes depending on their device, inhalation style, power, coil, puff frequency, and chosen nicotine strength.

How can you accurately determine your daily consumption?

The most reliable method is to measure your own consumption over several days. Note the volume of e-liquid used, then divide it by the number of days.

Formula: total volume consumed ÷ number of days = average consumption in ml per day.

Purely arithmetic examples, not recommendations:

  • a 10 ml bottle used over 5 days corresponds to 2 ml per day;
  • 10 ml used over 2 days corresponds to 5 ml per day;
  • 30 ml used over 6 days corresponds to 5 ml per day.

A period of several days is preferable to a single day because consumption varies with habits and activities.

Why do some vapers consume much more e-liquid?

Vaping style: MTL, RDL, or DL

MTL generally uses less power and vaporizes less liquid with each puff. RDL falls between the two, while DL, which is more airy and powerful, consumes more. Our MTL, RDL, or DL guide explains these differences in detail.

The power used

The more power the coil receives within its operating range, the more liquid it can vaporize over a given period. A powerful sub-ohm box can therefore empty a tank much faster than a small pod.

The coil’s resistance and size

A large sub-ohm coil generally has a substantial heating surface and wicking openings designed for a high liquid flow rate. A small MTL pod works at a more moderate pace.

The duration and frequency of puffs

Long and frequent draws mechanically increase the volume vaporized. Consumption therefore depends as much on behavior as on the device.

The PG/VG ratio and type of e-liquid

The liquid’s viscosity affects how it feeds into the cotton, but it cannot by itself predict your consumption. The right ratio should above all be compatible with the coil being used.

Tank capacity and daily consumption: do not confuse the two

The tank size does not correspond to what you consume in a day. A 3 ml pod can be refilled several times or, conversely, may not be emptied completely. For example, the Vaporesso XROS 6 Kit – 30W 1800mAh 3 ml has a 3 ml tank, while the Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 200W 5.5 ml Kit uses a larger tank. These capacities describe the device, not a recommended daily consumption.

Your consumption has suddenly increased: what should you check?

  • Have you switched to a lower-resistance coil?
  • Have you increased the power?
  • Have you opened the airflow further?
  • Have you switched from MTL to RDL or DL?
  • Are you vaping more often than before?
  • Is the tank leaking?

A leak can make it seem as though you are consuming more, even though some of the liquid is not being vaporized. In that case, see why is my electronic cigarette leaking.

E-liquid consumption and nicotine strength

The volume of e-liquid and its nicotine concentration are two distinct parameters, but both are related to usage. If your device or vaping style makes you consume much more liquid than before, it may be useful to reassess the strength carefully rather than automatically keeping the same dosage. See our guide which nicotine strength to choose for your e-liquid.

You can browse VAPEVO e-liquids or large-format e-liquids according to your needs and device.

How can you reduce your e-liquid consumption if you wish?

Without trying to impose a target amount, certain adjustments can reduce the volume vaporized: use a more moderate power within the recommended range, choose a more restrictive draw, avoid unnecessarily long puffs, and check that there are no leaks. However, the choice should remain consistent with the coil and your vaping preferences.

FAQ: how many ml of e-liquid per day?

Is there an ideal average consumption?

No. A general average would be of little use for an individual because the device and inhalation style greatly affect the volume consumed. Tracking your own consumption is more relevant.

Why does a sub-ohm clearomizer consume more?

It generally operates at higher power with a larger heating surface and a more airy draw, which vaporizes more liquid with each use.

Does a 3 ml tank mean that I consume 3 ml per day?

No. The capacity only indicates the tank’s maximum volume. You may consume less or refill it several times during the day.

Vaping is not risk-free. Nicotine is addictive. In France, nicotine-containing products must comply with the applicable regulatory limits and are reserved for adults.
