To choose an e-liquid for a pod, start with the cartridge’s coil. Small MTL coils and low-power pods generally work well with fairly thin e-liquids, while a lower-ohm, higher-power cartridge can handle more VG. The best choice is always the one recommended by the pod manufacturer.

The PG/VG ratio: the first criterion

Propylene glycol (PG) generally makes the e-liquid thinner, while vegetable glycerin (VG) increases its viscosity. A compact cartridge with small e-liquid inlets may struggle to wick a very thick liquid properly.

These values are general trends. A 0.6 Ω cartridge from one brand may not have the same requirements as another.

Moderate-power MTL pods are often used with classic nicotine or nicotine salts. Salts allow formulations suited to low-power devices, but the strength should remain consistent with your consumption and the device’s power.

Signs that an e-liquid is unsuitable for your pod

  • dry hit or a dry taste despite a recent coil;
  • repeated leaks with a very thin liquid in a very airy cartridge;
  • gurgling and spitback;
  • insufficient cotton wicking with a liquid that is too viscous;
  • much higher e-liquid consumption than expected.

The quick choice

MTL pod + coil around 0.8 to 1.2 Ω: generally choose a fairly thin liquid and moderate power. Airier pod + coil around 0.4 to 0.6 Ω: check whether the cartridge accepts an e-liquid with a higher VG content. In all cases, follow the cartridge’s technical specifications.

Can you use 70/30 in a pod?

Only if the cartridge manufacturer allows it. An e-liquid containing 70% VG may be too thick for some small MTL coils.

Are nicotine salts mandatory in a pod?

No. Many pods also work with classic nicotine e-liquids or nicotine-free e-liquids, depending on the coil and device.

Which e-liquid for a 0.8 Ω pod?
